There are so many ways to injure yourself and be at risk for a traumatic brain injury. No matter your age, a traumatic brain injury is serious and could be potentially life-threatening or even fatal.
There are, however, certain signs and symptoms to look out for if you have been injured or in an accident. It’s so important to track how you are feeling after a fall or accident has occurred involving your head.
According to the CDC, there are specific signs and symptoms to look out for. And because children cannot explain how they feel as well as an adult, there are certain tell-tale signs to look for when they suffer head injuries.
The signs and symptoms are broken down into four different categories:
Thinking and Remembering
- Feeling slowed down
- Difficulty remembering any information
- Difficulty concentrating
- Difficulty thinking clearly
Emotions and Mood
- More emotional than usual
- Nervousness or anxiety
- An increase in irritability
- Depression
Sleep
- Having trouble falling asleep
- Sleeping more than usual
- Sleeping less than usual
Physical
- Feeling exhausted/having no energy
- Nausea or vomiting
- Dizziness
- Sensitivity to noise or light
- Balance problems
- Headache with fuzzy or blurry vision
There is a possibility that these symptoms will appear right away, but there is also the possibility of a delayed reaction. This is when things can become dangerous and deadly. Early on, problems can be overlooked or go unnoticed, so it’s a priority to know these signs and keep watch if they were to come about. Being prepared is your best weapon!
