Protect Yourself from COVID-19

As a result of the national emergency created by the COVID-19 outbreak, it’s never been so important to take the necessary precautions to keep ourselves and our loved ones healthy. With the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in New Jersey, there’s no telling who has it and doesn’t even know they may be carrying the virus. COVID-19 is highly contagious before those infected show any signs of symptoms, meaning it’s imperative to avoid as many people as possible.

Wash Hands Frequently

Keep your hands as clean as possible by washing them periodically with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Be sure to wash your hands after going to the bathroom, before and after eating, after interacting with others, and consistently throughout the day.

Practice Social Distancing

Stay at least 6 feet away from others as much as possible, in particular anyone who might be coughing or sneezing.

Stay Home as Much as Possible

By staying home unless absolutely necessary, we can minimize the possibility that we contract the virus, or if we’ve contracted it, that we spread it to other people. If you’re able, work from home. Only leave the house when you absolutely need to, such as to buy groceries and other necessities.

Avoid Touching Your Face

If your hands have come in contact with the virus, whether you know it or not, it’s best not to touch your face so that you can avoid allowing the virus to enter your body, making you sick.

Seek Medical Care Early

If you start to feel sick, make sure you go see a doctor as soon as possible. Call ahead so they know you’re coming and you can spend as little time in a waiting room as possible. Hopefully if you’re sick, it’s not with COVID-19, but if the doctor thinks you may have it, they’ll be able to direct you to the proper health care facility, allowing you to take care of it as soon as possible, minimizing who you spread the virus to and how bad it gets.

Presently, New Jersey has the 6th most cases in the United States, while our neighbor, New York, has the most cases in the country. With cases in New Jersey recently having reached the hundreds, it’s important that we take this seriously and do our part by staying clean, safe, and isolated from others. Coronavirus has become a threat throughout New Jersey, however, it’s a significantly larger threat in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Monmouth and Middlesex counties.

The most important thing right now is patience and due diligence. If we are smart about when we leave the house and how much we interact with others, hopefully those in charge are able to get this taken care of as soon as possible. Aside from being careful for ourselves and loved ones, we simply need to be patient. These are unusual times, but fortunately professionals are working around the clock to get it taken care of so we can all return to normalcy as soon as possible.
